Marie was an active mountain biker and horse rider until 1992 when she suffered a severe accident whilst riding in the Rivelin Valley. She has been able to rebuild her life despite living with limited walking capabilities and painful Fibromyalgia.
Her brakes failed at speed on a steep hill and she crashed into a dry stone wall, fracturing her skull and spline, severely crushing multiple vertebrae and lacerations to her face. Marie spent five months recovering in hospital which made her determined to retain as much independence as possible. Being outdoors was hugely important to Marie, however, she found getting out and about extremely difficult.
